Sheffield

Built for Sheffield's hills and weather.

North Sheffield is steep, wooded and often wet. Wind drives leaves off Greno Woods and the Don valley slopes into gutters, shaded roofs grow moss and hillside plots are awkward to reach. We use pure water, a gutter vacuum and a careful hand, and we work from the ground wherever we can, so even the awkward jobs are done properly.

Local knowledge

What we see in Sheffield.

This side of Sheffield mixes Victorian terraces in Hillsborough, the early 20th-century garden-suburb cottages of the Flower Estate in Wincobank, stone-built village cores in Ecclesfield, Grenoside, Stannington and Oughtibridge, and big 20th-century estates around High Green, Chapeltown and Burncross. Many homes sit on steep slopes, in the Don valley or on high, open ground beside woodland.

  • Gutters ยท Downpipes

    Leaves from the woods

Greno Woods above Grenoside, Beeley Wood and Wharncliffe Woods around Oughtibridge and Wincobank Wood on its hilltop all shed into nearby gutters every autumn. A gutter vacuum draws it out from the ground, which suits steep plots where a ladder is awkward.

  • Roofs ยท Fascias

    Moss on valley roofs

Homes low in the Don valley at Oughtibridge, and north-facing roofs on the slopes of Hillsborough and Stannington, stay damp for days, so moss and lichen settle in. We scrape the growth away by hand and treat the roof with biocide to slow it coming back.

  • Windows ยท Frames

    Traffic film on main roads

Homes along Middlewood Road in Hillsborough and the busy roads through Chapeltown and Ecclesfield collect a grey film on glass and frames. Pure water and a soft brush lift it without streaks, even on terraces where windows sit close to the pavement.

  • Conservatories ยท Solar

    Extensions and panels

The semis and bungalows around High Green, Burncross and Chapeltown often have conservatories and rear extensions, and some have solar panels. Both collect moss, pollen and bird mess, and both are cleaned from the ground with a water-fed pole.

Coverage

Where we work around Sheffield.

These are the towns and villages we cover around Sheffield. Close by but not listed? Send us your address and we will tell you straight away.

High Green

The most northerly suburb of Sheffield, on high, open ground near Westwood Country Park. Large 20th-century estates sit beside older stone cottages, and the wind across the top brings leaves and grit into gutters and onto glass.

Chapeltown

A busy small town with its own station, park and shops, ringed by estates from the 1930s onwards and plenty of newer homes. Conservatories and extensions are everywhere, and traffic on the main roads leaves a film on nearby windows.

Burncross

A mostly residential area on the western side of Chapeltown, with semis, bungalows and detached homes on rising ground. Gardens are mature and trees are close by, so gutters, fascias and conservatory roofs gather leaves and moss.

Ecclesfield

An old village with a stone-built core around St Mary's, the church known as the Minster of the Moors, surrounded by later housing. Older cottages, low eaves and stone walls sit beside straightforward estate homes.

Grenoside

A stone village on high ground on the edge of Greno Woods, famous for its Boxing Day sword dance. Stone cottages along Main Street and newer homes around them see heavy leaf fall and plenty of wind.

Wincobank

A steep hill above the Don valley, topped by an Iron Age hill fort and Wincobank Wood. Below it is the Flower Estate, a garden suburb of council cottages built in the early 1900s with streets named after flowers.

Stannington

A hilltop village on the ridge between the Rivelin and Loxley valleys, on the edge of the Peak District. Older stone houses and 1960s estates take the full force of the wind, and roofs pick up lichen and grit.

Oughtibridge

A village in the Don valley north-west of the city, between Beeley Wood and Wharncliffe Woods. Stone cottages and terraces sit beside newer homes on former mill land, and the damp valley air keeps roofs and frames green.

Hillsborough

Victorian and Edwardian terraces climbing the slopes around Hillsborough Park and the shops of Middlewood Road. Windows sit close to the pavement, roofs are shared along the row and traffic film builds up quickly.

Questions

Sheffield FAQs.

Ask on WhatsApp
Which parts of Sheffield do you cover?

We cover High Green, Chapeltown, Burncross, Ecclesfield, Grenoside, Wincobank, Stannington, Oughtibridge and Hillsborough. If you live close to one of them and are not sure whether your street is included, send us your address and we will say straight away.

Can you reach houses on steep hillside streets?

In most cases, yes. A water-fed pole and a gutter vacuum both work from the ground, so we can clean windows, gutters and rooflines without leaning ladders on steep or uneven ground in Hillsborough, Stannington or Oughtibridge. Tell us about any awkward access when you ask for a quote.

Do you clean terraced houses in Hillsborough?

Yes. We clean the windows, frames, gutters, fascias and roofs of terraces. Where a terrace shares one roofline, we agree with you which part is yours before we start. Our work is on glass, frames, rooflines, gutters and roofs rather than on the brick or stonework itself.

How often should I have my gutters cleared in Sheffield?

Once or twice a year suits most homes here, with late autumn the most useful time. Houses beside Greno Woods, Wincobank Wood or the wooded slopes around Oughtibridge can need a visit more often, because they catch far more leaves than an open street.

Is moss a problem on Sheffield roofs?

It can be. Shaded, north-facing and valley-bottom roofs grow moss and lichen readily, and the wet, hilly weather does not help. We scrape the growth away by hand and treat the roof with biocide, and we will tell you if we spot slipped or cracked tiles.

Do you clean solar panels and conservatories in Sheffield?

Yes. Both are cleaned from the ground with a water-fed pole, a soft brush and pure water, so nobody stands on your roof or on the panels. Many customers in Chapeltown, Burncross and High Green add them to a window or gutter visit.

Do you work with businesses in Sheffield?

Yes. Our commercial window cleaning covers shopfronts, offices and public buildings in the areas we serve, such as the shops along Middlewood Road and in the centre of Chapeltown, with visits planned around your opening hours.

What happens if the weather is bad?

Light rain does not stop pure water cleaning, but strong winds, ice and heavy rain can make work unsafe, particularly on exposed tops such as High Green, Grenoside and Stannington. If that happens we will rearrange the visit with you.
